Flor amazónica

Although not technically "wild," this flower, which unfortunately I cannot identify at the moment, was found in a magnificent botanical garden on the edge of an Amazon rain forest in Ecuador.
An extremely insightful Shuar woman (the Shuar are one of several indigenous cultures in the region), fearing the loss of the medicinal and other plants used by her people for the past 3000 years, purchased 75 acres of land on which she and her US-born biologist husband have created this oasis of indigenous species.

No técnicamente calificada como "salvaje", esta flor, que por desgracia no he podido identificar por el momento, se encontró en un magnífico jardín botánico al borde de una selva amazónica en Ecuador. Una mujer Shuar muy perspicaz (los Shuar son una de las varias culturas indígenas de la región), temiendo la pérdida del medicamento y de otras plantas utilizadas por su pueblo durante los últimos 3.000 años, compró 75 acres de terreno, en el que ella y su marido biólogo de origen americano, han creado este oasis de especies autóctonas

Taken at the photo blind at the Tandayapa Lodge in the Tandayapa Velley (8,400'). The white object beneath the bird's bill appears to be a tick.
This photo shows some of the amazing things digital camera technology is capable of. It was extremely dark in the cloud forest and not long after dawn. This photo was taken at 1/40 second (no flash allowed at the blind), handheld (braced on a window), f/5.0 at ISO 3200! And I remember when the fastest slide film was ISO 25....
